15 Unwanted Household Items You May Be Able to Sell

A room-spanning list of electronics, appliances and fitness equipment worth identifying before you recycle or discard them.

Selection of unwanted household items

Start with usefulness, not the original price

An item does not need to be new to interest a buyer. It does need to be identifiable, honestly described and practical to reuse or collect. Before clearing a cupboard or spare room, find model numbers, gather accessories and test ordinary functions safely.

Do not spend hours restoring everything. A five-minute check often tells you whether an item deserves a proper quotation, a repair assessment or a recycling route.

1. Dehumidifiers

Record the extraction capacity, tank size, model, filters and drainage hose. Run the unit normally and note noise, leaks or a faulty humidistat. Empty and dry the tank before transport. The dehumidifier quotation page asks for the details that separate compact bedroom units from larger machines.

2. Air purifiers

Room coverage, filter type, sensor operation and replacement history matter more than a shiny outer case. Photograph the model label and filter compartment without releasing loose dust into the room. Use the air purifier quote form for the exact model and included remote or power supply.

3. Portable air conditioners

A portable unit needs its exhaust hose, connectors, window kit and remote to be easy to reuse. Check cooling, drainage and signs of leakage. Include the stated BTU rating when requesting an air conditioner quotation.

4. Ovens

Built-in, freestanding and range-style ovens need different collection planning. Record fuel type, dimensions, model and ordinary heating or fan behaviour. Do not disconnect gas or hard wiring unless a competent person is responsible. The oven assessment page also asks about shelves, trays and access.

5. Grills

Open the lid and show the cooking area, burners or charcoal tray, grates, controls, wheels and shelves. Rust, damaged hoses and failed ignition need direct notes. Remove fuel according to the agreed instructions before a grill collection.

6. Plant collections

Healthy, established plants can be awkward to move but useful to another home. List the species where known, approximate size, pot and recent pest treatment. Use current photographs. The plant collection page helps organise several specimens without pretending they are all in identical condition.

7. Alexa and Echo devices

Check the exact generation, speaker or display, microphones, power adaptor and screen condition. Remove the device from your account and factory reset it using current manufacturer guidance. The Alexa device quotation page covers speakers and displays.

8. Older iPods

Generation, storage, battery behaviour, screen condition and the correct cable can change the assessment. Do not describe an iPod only by colour. The iPod quotation route asks for the identifying details and whether buttons or the click wheel work.

9. Smartwatches

Unpair the watch properly, remove account locks and gather the charger and straps. Record the brand, model, case size, connectivity and battery behaviour. A cracked screen, worn crown or third-party strap should be disclosed on the smartwatch page.

10. Desktop computers

A custom desktop needs more than a photograph of the case. Record the processor, memory, storage, graphics card and motherboard where known. Back up and erase personal data before using the computer quotation page. Include cables and peripherals only when they are part of the sale.

11. Projectors

Resolution, brightness, throw type, lamp or laser usage, lens condition and remote control all matter. Test focus and the available inputs. The projector assessment page is more useful than listing it as a small television.

12. VR headsets

Check the headset, lenses, storage, tracking, controllers, cables and face interface. Remove accounts and reset it before handover. Use the VR headset quotation page and photograph lens scratches or controller drift honestly.

13. Drones

Inventory the aircraft, controller, batteries, charger, propellers, guards and case. Note crash history, gimbal faults and battery warnings. A drone quotation needs separate model details for the aircraft and controller.

14. Skateboards and snowboards

A skateboard needs deck, trucks, wheels, bearings and water damage checked. A snowboard needs the base, edges, topsheet, bindings and repairs photographed. Use the matching skateboard page or snowboard quotation page rather than a generic sports listing.

15. Barbells and punching bags

Weight, dimensions and collection access matter. Inventory barbell plates and collars, or record a punching bag’s height, filled weight, base, chains and bracket. The barbell page and punching bag page ask different questions for good reason.

A five-minute triage for any item

Find the model, check whether it works, gather essential accessories, photograph condition and note collection constraints. If a fault makes the item unsafe, stop testing it. If personal data is involved, complete the account removal and reset before handover.

Anything unsuitable for reuse should go through an appropriate donation, repair or recycling route. The repair, recycle or sell guide helps with that decision.

Use the guide, then use the details
