Start with the exact console
Console generations often contain several revisions with different storage, disc drives, ports and dimensions. Record the model label and capacity rather than relying on a broad name such as ‘PS4’ or ‘Xbox One’. Include whether the disc drive reads a game and whether the console produces a stable picture and sound.
Older systems need the same care. An original Xbox 360, Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E are not interchangeable descriptions. The Xbox 360 quotation page asks for the console model, storage, controller, power supply, disc drive and included games.
Test the console before resetting it
Check power, picture, sound, network connection, accessible ports and the disc drive where present. Let the system run long enough to reveal obvious fan noise, overheating warnings or repeated restarts. Report error codes exactly rather than translating them into a guess about the fault.
Do not open the case to clean or diagnose it for a sale. Loose dust can be removed from external vents with the power disconnected, but internal work belongs with somebody competent.
Test every controller separately
Pair each controller and check the buttons, triggers, sticks, charging and battery compartment. Stick drift, sticky buttons and loose charging sockets are common enough that a vague statement such as ‘controller included’ does not say much.
List genuine and third-party controllers separately. If rechargeable packs, docks or cables are included, photograph them together and state which controller they fit.
Inventory games and accessories
Group the power lead, display cable, controller cables, stands, camera accessories and physical games. Check that discs are in the correct cases and that cartridges are not mixed between systems. Collector editions should be described by the parts actually present, not by a stock photograph of the complete set.

Remove accounts and personal information
Back up saves you want to keep, sign out, remove the console from trusted device lists and follow the manufacturer’s current factory reset instructions. A quick deletion of the visible profile may leave account links, stored networks or payment information behind.
Do not include a digital games account as part of the sale unless the platform’s current rules explicitly allow transfer. Keep account credentials, recovery codes and one-time codes private.
VR equipment should be treated as a separate item
A headset, tracking camera and motion controllers may work with a console, but they have their own model and condition details. Lens scratches, face interface wear, controller drift and tracking faults need direct photographs and notes.

Decide whether to bundle or separate

Photograph evidence, not just the front logo
Show the console from the front and rear, the model label, ports, controller, power supply, games and any damage. If the system is working, a photograph of the setup screen can help, provided no account name or personal notification is visible.
For a noisy fan or disc error, a clear written note is often more useful than an unclear video. State when the issue happens and which disc or function was tested.
Package only after the handover method is agreed
